Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for the visitors but the home side produced a stunning comeback to take all three points
Valencia managed to turn the game around after Cristiano Ronaldo's penalty and in a magnificent second half came out triumphant thanks to goals by Barragán and Otamendi.
Real Madrid have lost a league game for the first time since matchday 3, putting an end to their string of 22 victories.
In the 13th minute, a handball committed by Negredo in the area was blown by the referee, causing much protest from the home fans. Cristiano had no trouble converting the subsequent penalty, with Diego Alves diving the wrong way. Real were one up.
The second half started with the equalizing goal from the home team. After a great bit of football from Gayá, Barragán struck the ball hard from just outside the area. The shot came off Pepe, wrong-footing Real keeper Iker Casillas and going in.
For the next minutes, it was competitive, end-to-end football. Finally, a corner taken by Parejo found Otamendi, who headed the ball home in style. Valencia had managed to make a comeback and the game at that point became red hot.
'Los Blancos' quickly stepped it up a gear, putting intense pressure on the Valencia goal.
With just five minutes left on the clock, an Isco header was met with a fine save from Diego Alves. The following minutes were suffocatingly tense, with the home team defending the Real barrage as best they could. In the end, the bombardment came to nothing, and the local team went home with all three points, putting an end to Real's record-breaking string of wins.
